What's that fool Gilhooley talking about now?

About Me

Who is that fool Gilhooley anyway?

I’m a British ex-pat living in the Monterey Bay area of California. I’m a musician, writer, educator and sometime technologist. Originally from Tyneside, I also lived in York and London before moving to the United States.

About this site…

I blog about music, books, technology, culture, 1970s and 80s nostalgia, North-East England history, and my general observations on life. Some of the posts are well-researched and considered; others are less complete – they are just me setting an idea out and seeing where it goes. The main purpose of this site is just to get me writing on at least a semi-regular basis. If anyone enjoys reading what I have written, that’s a bonus!

I used to have a blog on my old website, squashy.net, which I retired a few years ago. I’ll maybe re-publish some of the posts from my old blog occasionally if they still seem worthwhile.

From 2002 to 2007 I wrote a weekly music column for the Salinas Californian newspaper, previewing upcoming performances. I had 250+ columns in print, so may re-post any that I find interesting or relevant here.

At some point I will get around to setting up a Bandcamp site for my music compositions, but in the meantime you can visit the Grumbling Ginger web site if you want to see some of what I am doing musically.

Opinions expressed on this site are my own. I don’t represent any organisation, nor do I do any commercial endorsements, collect your data or anything of that kind.

Thanks for dropping by. I love to hear from my site’s visitors, so please feel free to comment on any of my posts, or if you would rather send me a private message please visit the Contact Me page.
